How to Give a Book a New Life as Bookbox !!

Ellie Knol here again, yes, sadly for the last time now, as I step down from the design team after being here for a year..

…but don’t be sad, there are very talented new design team members already here now!

Thanks Stayce for having me, I really had fun working (playing) with your beautiful product! They will stay in my stash and I am sure I will USE them!

This time I chose to alter a book into a bookbox. It was a looooooot of work!

I gave myself some homework: and I must say: mission accomplished…

I wanted to know whether I like to work on a white or black surface better?! I still don’t know the answer.. I like them both.

I chose to use the colors from the current moodboard:
For a step-by-step of the process: SNAPGUIDE!!

Gelatine prints and how to use them in your art

Hallo, a good day to all of you!
Ellie Knol here today,
showing you what to do with all these beautiful papers
lying around in your studio, gathering dust!

When making monoprints (or gelliprints),  you end up with a lot of beautiful papers! Colorful, shiny, textural happy paper…

..
..even the papers you’ve used to cleanup your brayer, are very useful to collage with, or use them as backgrounds.

*****

I’ve used this one to create an art journal page… and went through stages, changing plans,
(I had to, as a full cup of coffee went over the project; I was not happy with that person, you might guess ! He said afterwards that he only added some depth to it 🙂 )

and ended up with a colorful page with stenciling and layers  of stamping and colors.

For al the stages it went through, please see the SNAPGUIDE:

Check out How to Use Your Gelliprints by Art Anthology on Snapguide.

****

And while making monoprints, you sometimes have paint on a stamp, after making marks with it on the gelliplate?

Use it to make a one-of-a-kind background!!

The bliss of Sorbets and Velvets!

Ellie here today, with FUN!

An easy but so versatile technique: use your acrylic blok to stamp (or smoosh) paint onto paper,
or any other surface for that matter.

… AND you can actually stamp in the wet paint too! With a script stamp for example!

It’s an all shimmery yummy textural happy background!

The first finished card!

****

The second one:

Only difference with the previous one (except for the color) : I misted the paint ánd the cardstock with water before smoooooooshing.

Lazy days of summer are nearly over!

For more info on the technique itself, please see the Snapguide tutorial I created JUST for you!

Guess which one of these two is my favorite?!

Fragile!

Hi all Art Anthology fans,
Ellie Knol here today!
…  with a project I’ve started during my vacation… dried stems and flowers to make some home-decor with. They’ve been waiting, together with the gesso-primed MDF in a droplet-like shape.

It took a lot of steps and time to get to the finished project..

.. but I am happy with the end result..

…although looking through the pictures I’ve made, I sometimes thought I had to maybe stop at that step, hehe

But on the other hand.. I’ve learned a lot by just going with the flow and go through trial and error…  (of course there is not really any error in Mixed Media) … adding another layer of color…

.. or white acrylic paint to cover it up, LOL !

Coloring the stems and seedheads with Decadent Minx Shimmering inks is just one of the steps in the Snapguide I’ve created for you:

Altered art with Art Anthology?!

A little gift .. .as a thank you to a friend.

I made this during our holiday… with found feathers at our accomodation.
I scored the bread board and the pebbles during one of our outings to thrift stores.

Easy to do .. on any surface or any substrate.

I (Ellie), would love it if you would take the time to have a look at the step-by-step just for you AA fans in the Snapguide!

The project in an early stage:
(LOVE these stencils!)

AND a close-up of the finished project:

AND a few pictures of the finished project on the wall.

Enjoy!

I made a lot of different pictures, because I knew I was not going to be able to photograph this at home. Here a funny one: the project with a lot of glass pebbles and tissue wrap, to get you in the mood! (grin)

Enjoy your day, and happy crafting until next time!!

Playing with Minx Shimmering Inks – no 6

Remember these posts from me, Ellie?

Playing with Minx shimmering inks – no 4

Remember that, on an old table: using a bucket of water and paper, and of course … Minx,
I created a whole bunch of backgrounds?? I did a second post about that too:

Playing with Minx shimmering inks – no 5

Today’s post features the beautiful vibrancy of the Minx Shimmering Inks.

The background on canvas paper.. still wet but drying in the sun!
Later on, I discovered that I must have dropped some water on it by mistake, as it had more drops than showing on this photo… that’s part of the fun!
I had to be everywhere, because the robot lawnmower wanted to mow over my backgrounds sometimes, hehe.

I wanted to enhance the drops, so I did not cover it up, but overstamped and used the background as part of the images.

Don’t forget.. there is a Snapguide at the end of this post, showing the steps to achieve the finished card.

A close-up: watch the droplet… with the inks all pushed to the edges of it. I think that’s magic… I couldn’t have painted it that way!

****

Now for the second background:  very different paper, but a beauty too!

I cut it to size…

… and created this:

I sponged these tiny dots from the Lotus Stencil around the edge.

…for step-by-steps of this second card too, please see the Snapguide.

Playing with Colorations Inks

Ellie Knol again today,
showing a way to play with Colorations Shimmering Inks.

………………

By misting the Colorations on an acrylic block and ‘stamping’ that onto your cardstock….

….you get beautiful washes on your background.
TIP… Leave the block on the cardstock for a few minutes for it to be able to absorb the moisture.

****

Stamp with a colored ink.

Color the image with Colorations Shimmering inks
and splatter some ink as well. Stamps a script with a matching colored ink.

Sponge over a stencil with distress inks.
Finish it off with a script and white heat embossing.

….for more pictures and step-by-step please have a look at the Snapguide tutorial I’ve created for you!

Playing with Minx shimmering inks – no 5

Ellie Knol again here today.

I decided to make backgrounds with Minx Shimmering Inks, on all types of paper.

It is really easy, and relaxing to do while enjoying the sun…

As promised, this time I’ll show the ones that had some white heat embossing, gesso and acrylic paint on it before coloring with Minx. Also some on canvas paper.
See the blogpost called
Playing with Minx shimmering inks – no 4 for more info !

I hope that I have inspired you to create something pretty today and play even when you’re on vacation. You can add the final touches when back home.
