Jules here. I’ve been wanting to do something special with this very favorite picture I took of my grand daughter, Leighton Kaye. Thanks to Art Anthology, I was able to create this fun heavy card stock over canvas project.
I used matte card stock to start. I pulled apart some gauze and sprayed Colorations Patience randomly on the paper.
Still spraying through the gauze in a random fashion, I added Colorations in Glorious and Guacamole. I added some splatters in Colorations Grass for interest. The gauze kept getting prettier and prettier as did the paper.
Next, I used the Stencil Dottie and sprayed through it onto the upper right of the paper with Glorious.
I flipped the stencil over and placed it sideways over lapping the first. I used a brayer to transfer the color that was on the stencil and then sprayed it with Diamond. Wow! LOVE how this was going so far. The shimmer was amazing.
I took the photo into Picasa and used the vignette tool to soften the background and then the sharpen tool to accent my grand daughter’s features. I printed this onto a Studio 71 Canvas Pad sheet. Photos printed onto canvas often blur so the sharpen tool really helps. I added a bit more color with soft pencils and then sprayed the photo with ClearCote Acrylic Sealer in Matte Finish by Folk Art. The photo has a tendency to smear and even fade if this step is not taken.
I used a craft knife on glass to fray the edges. The canvas sheet is much more pliable than canvas paper and produces a softer image.
I wrapped the paper project around a the canvas frame from a project I was not happy with. I added flowers, trim, butterflies and two transparencies from my stash.
Look at the shimmer on the paper…oh la la! Oh, and the gauze…why I am saving that for another project, of course.
As always, thank you for looking.
