Dreaming of Dragonflies

Welcome to the Art Anthology/Altered Pages Blog Swap.  We’ve partnered with each other these last few weeks of October to offer you lots of inspiration using products from Art Anthology and Altered Pages.

This is Jules bringing you my creation with products from these two amazing companies.

I took a small wooden box and, without sanding it, painted the sides and top with one coat of 1 part Art Anthology Velvet Dimensional Paint in Basil to 2 parts the “can’t live without it” Gesso from AA.  Once this dried, reversed the mix and painted the inside adding a dash and dab of Sorbet Dimensional Paint by AA in Dazzle to give it a bit of sparkle

I printed out one of the “Muted Backgrounds” (AP-1451) from Altered Pages onto canvas paper and fit to the inside top and bottom of the box as a liner.  It gave a finished and so soft look to the inside.

I used one of the fantastic stencils (Bee Hive) new from AA and, with the pallet tool (also new from AA) layered a mix 3 parts Basil and 1 part Gesso over the stencil to create a darker, more textured look for the cover.  I added a bit of netting sprayed  with Art Anthology’s Colorations Spray in Lark to the top and one front corner.

I stamped the “Dragonfly Dreams” words from Altered Pages’ Dragonfly Dreams stamp onto vellum .  For the dragonflies, I stamped the two images first onto vellum and then onto a piece of thin acrylic with Stayzon ink.  I lightly colored the backs of the vellum .  After I bent the acrylic dragonflies’ wings upward and glued them to the vellum, I used Beacon’s 3 in 1 Adhesive to attache them to the top and front of the box.
