10 Simple Mixed Media Background Techniques

Hi everyone, Toni here today with a design team project hoping to inspire that mixed media artist within you. I have alot of people tell me they love the look and idea of mixed media, but are just too afraid to try it. Well I’m here today to share with you some very simple techniques that can enhance your scrapbook layouts, greeting cards, art journal pages, ATC’s etc.  Let’s get started. I decided to use Eileen Hull’s passport die for the mini album which would be perfect for a travel or vacation album. The album was held together with jute which was braided and then assorted beads were added. I altered this wooden box to hold the mini album in and because there are so many pages to this book I didn’t photograph them, but I’m hoping you will take a moment to view my process video below to see each technique individually and more photos of the finished pages.

Hoping you give some of these techniques a try.  I encourage you to embrace the imperfections of mixed media and just have fun !

Valentine’s altered heart box

Hi there !

Valentine’s day is around the corner and you’re so not ready ? I have a new project for you, an heart altered box :

It is a fun mixed media project to create for your Valentine, and you can filled it with chocolates, candies or lingerie if you want !

I started with a cardboard box and the Lotus stencil with Mud Paste (you can use heavy gesso or texture paste too). Once dried, I added some lace clay embellishments I prepared in advance (but you can you chipboard or wood ones) and covered everything with white gesso.

The box was then painted with Rose Velvet medium and set aside to dry… Meanwhile, I did covered all my embellishments with white gesso (paper flowers, metal leaves and flowers, clay flowers and letters).

They were then painted with Portobello Velvet medium or Rose Velvet medium, with touches of Kona Velvet or Fiesta Velvet.

The last part was to to create clusters and place the letters on the box ! A matching lace on the edge was the perfect final touch.

To help you create this box, I made a video tutorial that you can watch here or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for your time. Hope to see you soon on our blog !

Dream Little One..A Layout by Jenn

Hello everyone!! Jenn here sharing this beautiful layout I created featuring my gorgeous granddaughter Serah!
For my layout background I used a sheet of designer paper matted with a heavier black cardstock underneath it.
I applied a layer of clear gesso to the paper to prepare the surface for wet media. Once that was dry I stenciled a random pattern using a crackle texture paste. I left this to dry several hours.

I then sprayed AA Colorations in Sky and dried with a heat tool. I then added water to some AA Minx in Stargazer and pooled it lightly in some areas to achieve the shade of blue.I finished it by adding some more splatters of AA Colorations and some white acrylic paint mixed with a bit of water to thin it. Once I was happy with the color and it was dry I chose my flowers and other embellishments to compliment the sweet photo.

For these colors and many more amazing products check out the online store!

After changing my composition around several times I decided on this and adhered all of the element with glue. I brushed over some areas with mat gel and white gesso and then sprinkled them with glitter and art stones for a finishing touch!

Build Your Wings Layout by Toni

Hi everyone, Toni here with a new scrapbook layout enhanced with Art Anthology products. It’s so easy to add to your scrapbook layout using Art Anthology’s paints and sprays. Here I enhanced the paper using  a couple Coloration sprays…. Salmon and Sedona. There are so many Colorations to choose from, this will allow you to custom create your background paper to match or highlight your photos. Using Art Anthology Lattice Stencil provided a fun way to create some wings on my photo. Using Mud Paste and the addition of Diamond Dust glitter while paste is still wet really enhanced the wings. Hope you are inspired to add some Art Anthology products to your next scrapbook layouts. Below is a list of supplies list and also a process video for your pleasure.

Supplies Used :

How to make snow with Mud…

Hello everyone !

We are all in full Winter mode, so why not try to create a Winter project with cold color and snow ? That’s what I did in this layout :

After inking the edges of my background paper with Warm Colorations spray and water, I applied Mud paste over the Gothic stencil, and on the edges too. I did the same with a bunch of coordinate tags.

You know my love for fussy cutting… So I did cut out those branches and snowflakes as my embellishments…

The title of my layout was made with the Expressions stencil and Silver Metal Effect medium :

As usual, you will be able to follow my complete creative process in this video, available as the other DT videos on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for your time, see you soon for another project…

Happy 2019 !

Happy New Year y’all !

I hope you started this new journey with creativity ! If not I have the perfect project for you (and you can check the “send new year card” box of your to do list…) !

On white cardstock, I first sprayed Sterling Fairy Dust before embossing it with a folder.

The gray stars are made with the Twilight stencil and the Silver Metal Effect medium. I also made splatters of Stargazer Minx to add a little of blue on my background.

The tiny wood stars were colored with Honolulu Blue Sorbet. I also colored white twine with Sterling Fairy Dust and Stargazer Minx to put under the stamped and embossed paper stars.

You can re-create this card by following my steps on this tutorial video (also available on the Art Anthology YouTube channel) :

Thank you for your time, I’m glad to see you again in the beginning of this new year. I will see you soon for another project…

Have a great day !

Christmas layout

Hello there !

It’s Christmas soon, and you will have plenty of pictures to scrap ! Or, if you are like me, you have tons of pictures you should have scrap already… So let’s add another page to your Christmas scrapbook that you can made with our lovely Art Anthology products !

Let’s start with the background… The poinsettias are draw with a stencil and paint withe Ruby Red Shine. You can also see the Dot Matrix and the Chevron stencil in use.

In the AA products range, I used Colorations sprays in Warm and Raider, as well as Indulgence Minx.

I love using stencils, they are so versatile ! I think one of my favorite way to use stencil is to help me draw design with a fine pen. But it’s fun with an ink pad, or paste or medium too !

Another technique I like is the ink resist. My brown paper was ink resist, so I played with the Ruby Red Shine, and it works well too !

If you want to learn how I create this layout, watch my video tutorial on the Art Anthology channel or there :

Thank you for your time, have a wonderful Holidays time, and see you soon !
