Mixed Media Jewelry Christmas Tree by Toni

Merry Christmas everyone, today it’s my turn up on the blog with a new project for Art Anthology. I decided to recycle some old jewelry that I had in my stash and alter it into a Christmas tree decor piece. I used the backside of the canvas for the base of the project and started adding my pieces of jewelry in a shape of a tree, then primed the surface with white gesso. Then I started adding my pretty Coloration sprays and Minx Shimmering Inks.  For more added texture, I also added Mud Paste with art stones to the back of the tree. The outside frame was embellished using AA’s Ringlet stencil as well as Sorbet paints. All the products for AA used are listed below as well as a process video for your pleasure. Hope you have been inspired. Have a magical Christmas season !

A little inspiration for you, from Daniëlle

Hi everyone!

Daniëlle here, just popping in, to give you some extra inspiration!

I created these two tags:

In the background I used a combination of colorations sprays (Sandcastle, Siësta Key and Sedona) with Minx shimmering inks (Decadent, Panache) over a layer of Mud and stencils.

To give them a vintage, aged look, I used the texture sets Rust and Patina. I love these sets to add texture and color to elements like the die-cuts on my tags.

All you have to do now is add a beautiful stamp and a text and you’re all done! I hope to inspire you with my project and please show us what you create!

Bye Bye!

Altered Art Journal Cover by Toni

Hi everyone…. Toni here with a fun and easy way to spruce up your art journal cover using Art Anthology products. First prepping the surface with gesso then I adhered different elements to the cover, such as grungeboard letters and latex lace.  I decided to use “Anthology” as my title which I feel is perfect  Merriam Webster says:  anthology  noun an·thol·o·gy  Definition of anthology  1a collection of selected literary pieces or passages or works of art or music.

I used two different stencils (listed below) and Mud Texture Paste to give more yummy texture. Finished off with some Vintage Gold wax for highlights. Hope you enjoyed  and take one of your journals or album covers and give it a face lift. For your pleasure I have included a process video below. Happy creating ! xoxo Toni

AA Products used are :

Stencils-Chevron, Beehive

Fall meet Winter canvas

Hello !

Valerie here with something different from what I’m usually creating… it’s a canvas, to show you that you can paint with gel mediums as well as if it’s was acrylic, even if like me you’re not a painter !

After covering my canvas with white gesso, I started by applying grey (I used 50 shades but you can use Pewter) and Silver Metal Effect all over the canvas, then adding touches of red Desire Velvet with a small brush, using something water to dilute the color.

Then I added touches of Gold Metal Effect, Tango Velvet and Portobello Velvet to create different shades of leaves.

The trees are drawn with Tuxedo Velvet medium, with brushes of Onyx Shine. Few more brushes of Cotton Velvet to powder the landscape and I was done.

You should give it a try, it’s fun to create a canvas without pressure (we are not looking to create a masterpiece after all), and I have a little video tutorial to help you start with blank canvas by showing you how I did this one :

Thank you for your time, I hope this post will give give you some inspiration to create a canvas of your own.

See you soon with another project !

Cozy Christmas Layout by Toni

Merry Christmas everyone, today I have a fun festive layout with a photo I took of my daughter last Christmas. This is a very easy layout but the use of AA’s stencils and Mud Texture Paste just sends it over the top special… I think.    This month we are encouraging our followers to try out your stencils.

I used the Twilight Stencil and Mud Texture Paste, then I also ran through the same stencil with Metal Effects Gold. While the Mud was still wet I sprinkled dark red microbeads on.  Some of the chipboard pieces were highlighted with the Metal Effects Gold as well. I added DIY snow to alot of the project with Diamond Dust sprinkled over the top of layout as well as poinsettias. This layout only took me a couple hours…. which is very fast for me. Give our stencils a  try, they will not disappoint.

Dimensional mediums and stencils to build an art journal spread

Hello !

You will notice that this month AA designers had fun with the gorgeous stencils available on the shop… I made no exception and used two of them in my project :

After building the background with Colorations sprays in Timeless and Warm, and a stamp, I finally used the gold accent washi tapes lost in my stash…

I added then some splash of colors with Gold Metal Effect, Poppy Sorbet and Leaf Sorbet. I also use the Leaf Sorbet on the acrylic accent for my journaling, and with the Bits of Grunge stencil. The second stencil I used was the Blocked stencil with Kenyan Copper Sorbet. Use the Sorbet mediums over stencils gives the paint more texture and dimension.

You will find plenty of stencils to play with on the store, and several projects from the DT during November with them…

If you want to learn more about my creative process, you can either watch my new video tutorial here or on the AA YouTube channel :

Thank you for your time and see you soon for another project…

Adventure Awaits Layout by Toni

Hi everyone…. hope you are having a nice November and today I have a fall type layout to show you how versatile our stencils are here at Art Anthology. Over the past couple years I have fallen in love with mixed media mainly because of the freedom it allows and the textures you get to experiment with. But many of us are scrapbookers and you may think “mixed media isn’t for me.” Well let me tell you once you start playing with it on your layouts there is no going back. I now look back at some of my older layouts and am amazed how much more of my own personal expression is displayed thankfully from the help of mixed media products.  You can get as textured as you want or as simple as you want, it just depends on your own creative eye and preference. On this layout I only used one of our stencils but it happens  to have 3 different patterns on it, so I utilized each one differently.

     Scales Stencil

Art Anthology’s Mud is perfect to run through the stencil for some texture but the paints, being a gel base are dimensional and they can be run through a stencil as well. It’s fun too if you don’t have just that perfect patterned paper on hand you can take plain cardstock and spray through the stencils for a pattern of your liking. Art Anthology has so many different styles of stencils to choose from.Below I have provided a video so you can watch my creative process and maybe I’ll be able to share a technique or two with you on ways to add just a little bit of something different on your layouts.

Thank you and have a crafty month !

Build a layout’s background with Colorations sprays

Hello everyone !

Valerie from Texas here ! We don’t feel Fall like others in our state… 90° so far with a lot of humidity and only pecan trees have falling leaves… I miss the coolness and colors of Fall so I decided to create a layout around it :

I started by building the background with stamps that I colored with Colorations sprays in Timeless, Avocado, Rustic and French Toast (you can switch those two for Sandcastle and Warm).

I use the inks in two ways : mixed with water to color the stamped images and add splash of light color on the paper, and splattered over the layout.

This way, you can make any paper match your picture or your embellishments. And if you are using white flowers, you can also spray or paint them with the ink too !

As always, I made a video tutorial so you can watch my creative process here or on the AA YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by today ! See you soon for another project…
