Mixed media canvas about Maths…

Happy New Year from Valerie !

There is no reason to create less than in 2017, right ? I hope you start this new year with alot of projects in mind, and I hope I will help you in your creativity with my new project inspired by the January moodboard…

That was a lot of work but I am so pleased with the result ! I wanted to create a canvas to celebrate Maths and found a quote from Albert Einstein : “Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.” I had my title !

I used three different stencils, two from the Off the Grid stack, and the Blocked stencil. You will also find some Mud texture paste and Plush Colorations spray.

And I did play with Velvet and Sorbet mediums : Orchid, Mayan gold, Purple Rain, Mardi Gras and Dragon Fruit.

Maths are so important in the progress of the human kind… In fact, they are present everywhere, especially in art ! I think this piece could be a perfect gift for a Maths teatcher… Never too early to think about end-of-the-school-year gift or even a dad’s day gift ?

You can watch my video tutorial to see my creative process right here :

And if you need another push to creativity, here is the moodboard to help you start with colors…

Once again happy new year, and see you soon for another mixed media project…

Altered wooden deer head

Hello everyone!

I swear I was gonna use the beautiful AA moodboard in my project ! But I don’t know what happened, the red turn into a more pinkish color and the turquoise transformed itself into mint! So instead of creating a more Christmas like project, I ended up with a Spring project. Am I early or what ? Anyway here is my mixed media project :

The base is a wooden deer head, decorated with air dry clay embellishments and flowers, then covered with gesso. Once dry I used some Art Anthology magic to make it more vivid…

We have two colors here, for two kinds of products. First the pink: it’s the Valentine Colorations spray. You can switch to Barbie Colorations as it’s not in the store anymore.

The green is another AA products, a Minx – Shimmering ink in Bankroll. Both are working very well together !

So OK it’s not a Christmas vibe, but I do love the result!

If you want to know more about the process of this project, you can watch the video tutorial here or on the AA YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by today. I wish you a fantastic Holidays season and a great end of the year. We will see each other in 2018!! But you will find projects from the DT on this blog before I return so come back soon !

War and sakura : a mixed media layout

Hello !

Valerie today to present you a new project… I create a scrapbooking layout using two colorations sprays, some Mud texture paste with stencil and a Gemstone Effect medium…

So why War and Sakura ? Because the subject of the picture is an Onna-Bugeisha,  a rare female warrior from the high society of Japan. Despite her armor, she is extremely feminine. Did you notice the flowers in her hair ? That’s inspired me for the sakura flowers in my layout.

I started building the background with a resist paper and Colorations sprays in Sandcastle and Patience. I use the Blossom stencil with brown ink, then add some Mud paste over the Cracked stencil.

When the Mud was dried, I stamped cherry blossom in brown ink before painted them with Rhodolite Gemstone Dimensional medium. To complete the layout, I added cherry blossom cut out from a sheet of paper.

Imagine… your bookmarks !

Hello there, it’s Valerie !

Back to papercrafts after few off-the-page projects ! This time I created for you few bookmarks, using Colorations sprays, mediums and stencil from the Art Anthology store :

The chevron pattern came from the Chevron stencil used with Lagoon Velvet medium. I just added few stamps and washi tapes to complete the design.

I obtain the background by spraying Siesta Key and Peacock Feathers. I added the washi tapes before stenciling, and then Stamped in black ink. The Gold Metal Effects higlight some of the stamped patterns. I also sprayed some Gilded Gold Fairy Dust to add some shine to the project.

Once again I used a white gel pen to give dimension to the stamps. You can see the entire process on video (here or on the Art Anthology channel) :

Altered sketchbook by Valerie

Hi everyone !

Another mixed media project (I do love creating them!) with an inexpansive sketchbook as base…

I made clay embellishments and use flowers, metal embellishments and buttons as well to adhere on the sketchbook before covering everything with black gesso.

When everything was dry, I re-colored the project with Vegas Gold and Wisteria Sorbet, and Rose Velvet, then added some Gilded Gold Fairy Dust and Plush Colorations spray.

The other additions to this project were cheesecloth and microbeads, as well as wood letters for the title.

If you like to learn more about the process of this project, take a loo at my video tutorial here or on the Art Anthology channel, where you can find other wonderful tutorials.

Thank for stopping by and for your time reviewing this project ! Have a wonderful week end filled with creativity !

De-light-ed : a scrapbooking layout by Valerie

Hello crafty people !

I have a new layout to share with you today, with a design inspired by the subject of the picture I choose… When I was in Istanbul, I stopped by a lamp merchant in the Grand Bazaar. He sold beautiful lamps made of colored glass, and I did not resist to take a picture…

I built this layout like a mosaic, mixing classic designs and modern color blocks, as Istanbul appears to me, a mix of ancient history and appetite for modernity. Take a look at the result :

On a green paper, I started to built the background with brown ink and stamps, with the chain stamp and flourish designs looking like chandeliers.

Keyhole stencil and Copper Metal Effect medium added some dimensions to the page.

The color blocks were created with ink and heavy white cardstock. The color are : Colorations spray Indigo (blue), Colorations spray Patience (pink) and Radience Minx Shimmering ink (orange).

I also spray Sandcastle Colorations over the background before adhering the blocks.

If you want to learn more about how I created this layout, watch the video here or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by today ! I hope you enjoy this new project as much as I enjoyed creating it for you !

See you soon for another whatever-I-wil-make !

Skull candy by Valerie

Hello there !

I want to give to some ideas for Halloween or Day of the Dead today. Its’ not too early considering you could already find Christmas decorations in stores…

I saw this plaster skull few weeks ago and knew I had to paint it with AA mediums ! Skull candy are usually more colorful, but black and gold were a perfect fit for a classy and frightful look… So I started with this :

Black gesso for the base, Dazzle Clear Coat and Gold Metal Effect mediums for the painting part. I added metal beads and charms, few more painting, et voila !

Black gesso gave a matt finish to the skull. So I add the Dazzle for the glossy and sparkly look of this clear coat.

Depending on the thickness of your coat of paint, the Gold Metal Effect will have a solid finish or be just a touch. Here you can see the solid look :

And on the lacy flower is just an highlight in the center :

I made a video tutorial for you, but be indulgent as I am still in a temporary appartment in Houston and had to let my daughter shoot the video in my kitchen with my phone…

Thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to visit our other socials for more inspiration ! And see you soon…

Altered clipboard by Valerie

Hello AA lovers !

The project I have to show you today has something special… First I was supposed to post 3 days ago… But life got in the way and I wasn’t able to have my hand on AA products before two days ago on the AA booth at the CKC event in Houston ! You don’t really think a hurricane can stop me meeting AA people and create something for you, don’t you ?

So while there, I was able to create an altered clipboard (everybody has their kid at school by now, right ?) with what I found there : plenty of AA products, a stamp, a pen and… paper towel !

I worked on a plain clipboard covered with white gesso, building layers with stencils and different mediums. You can spot the Retro stencil as well as the Got Your Number and the Soliloquy stencils.

I used Barbie Colorations spray for the background and Raider Colorations spray for the edges and the splatters.

For the stenciled patterns, I used 50 Shades Grey and Orchid Velvet medium, plus Imperial Sorbet medium.

I did a step-by-step video tutorial for you that you can watch or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by today ! I already know what I will create for my next AA post, so see you soon…
