Enjoy The Ride Journal Page by Toni

Hi everyone, well it’s the last day to create something for Halloween and this really was an impromtu project. Playing in my art journal always gives me the freedom to try new things, not to stress just have fun and I hope this post encourages you to do that as well.

Keeping in  this month’s moodboard I came up with this page.  Mixed Media often intimidates many of us, including myself at times and that is why I push myself to “Play”. If you’ve ever been surfing the web and you see some artist with this unbelievable talent, I guarantee they will say, they “Play” with their paints, inks, paper just to see the effects they can get. I’m a firm believer “use it or lose it”… in other words the more you create and experiment the more accomplished you become. Layers upon layers of fun is what mixed media is all about, and sometimes you may come upon that so-called “Happy Accident”.  One technique I tried on this page was to add Seth Aptner’s Baked Enamel embossing to my wet AA Mud Texture Paste and see what kind of effect I would get, and yes I loved it. It bubbled and chipped and cracked and you know all that wonderful stuff. Something else I wanted to try was my Sorbet “Glass” to see if I can use it as an adhesive for my foiling and gilding flakes, and what do you know it worked.  Below I have a video so you can watch my creative process for this journal page.

So start some art journaling and just “Play” … Remember there is no need to be afraid of mixed media, just enjoy the ride.

Steampunk Hat Gift Box by Toni

Hi everyone, did you get inspired by our moodboard this month…. so so pretty !

My next project was totally inspired by this moodboard, the lovely vintage colors and flowers as well as that amazing Steampunk vibe. A friend of mine’s birthday is coming up and I decided to make her a gift box in the shape of a Steampunk Hat means she adores Steampunk like I do.  I started off with an inexpensive paper mache box from Hobby Lobby and primed it with black gesso. Then I coated my 3D Texture Fade in Mechanicals with our beautiful Sorbets in Patience, Amber, and Purple Rain. A bit messy I will admit but I love the effect you get when you emboss the paints right into the fibers of the papers. Coloration sprayed my flowers and added some metal embellishments and feathers and there you go.  For your pleasure I have included a video below. Hope you take time to view and are inspired. xoxo Toni

Supplies used :

Colorations-

Timeless, Plush, Patience, Raider

Sorbet-Purple Rain, Red Velvet

Rust Texture Set – Amber

Christmas In July- Mixed Media Cards by Toni

Toni here with a design team project that was inspired using this months mood board. Well I know we have a few months before Christmas but it will be here before you know it and I thought the mood board were perfect colors were holiday cards.

I decided I wanted to create some prints from my gelli plate so I used 4 colors, Shine Ruby and Kelly and Velvet Desire and Shamrock and applied it to my plate and made about 6 prints. Some I decided to use to diecut some poinsettias and other I decided to use as the background for my cards. This card I cut the poinsettias out and applied seed beads as well as homemade snow (equal parts, white paint, glue, baking soda) and also Diamond Dust glitter. I then used our Floral Tile stencil to add with Mud and once dry I added Nuvo drops to the centers. The next card was done by adding paints to a 3D embossing folder and then running your paper through to get this beautiful texture but vividly blended background. The poinsettia on this card was also created by just adding Amber (Rust Texture Set) to the embossing folder and then diecutting the flower petals.More Diamond Dust and seed beads were added to the flower to enhance. The last card the background was created from one of my gelli prints that I also used the stencil Twilight and it provides this distressed starry pattern. Perfect as a backdrop for my star die cuts.Hope this has inspired you to give your Christmas cards a bit of artsy vibe this year. Don’t be afraid to try new techniques so that card can be a one of a kind and the recipient will be amazed that you took time to make something especially creative for them.  For your pleasure I have included a Snapguide tutorial below to show some photos of my process for these cards. xoxo Toni

Fish for love – An art journal spread

Hello everyone !

How is your summer so far ? I hope you are not too lazy to craft ? Because I have a new project for you !

It’s an art journal spread created with several stencil and mediums. I started with the Siesta Key Colrations spray, followed by the Lattice stencil with brown ink. Then Messy bubbles stencil with Mermaid Sorbet.

I matched the bubbles stencil with a bubble stamp and green ink before working on the heart shape. For that, I played with stencils and mediums, then cut out several heart of different sizes that I glued on my pages.

I outlined the hearts with a black pen and drawn hooks and lines to go along with my journaling.

If you want more details on the mediums and stencils I used to created the paper for the hearts, you will find all the details in my video tutorial :

I hope you like this project. You can find more inspiration on the Art Anthology Pinterest page or on the AA Instagram profile.

Thank you for time, see you soon for another project !

A patchwork art journal spread with Daniëlle

Hi guys,

Daniëlle here to show you what I’ve created for the current color challenge. I love broght and bold colors so this months moodboard made me really happy!

As you all know I am a big fan of art journaling so I created this patchwork art journal spread:

First I created the patches with velvets (DesireTaxi cab and Shamrock). Later on I added Canary yellow shine on the yellow patch for some difference in surface. Next I used a stencil and Kelly green shine on the red patch & a different stencil and desire velvet on the yellow patch. I filled the green patches with a nice text and a tulip stamp (which I colored with kelly green shine and ferrari sorbet). Do a little doodling and your page is complete!

Here ar some extra pics of the pages:

Have a good, creative day!

Beautifully Aged by Toni

Hi everyone, Toni here with a quick post to encourage you to create even when you are limited on supplies. Alot of times us crafters feel like we have to have everything on the market in order to create something wonderful (I’m guilty of this myself). Every color of paint, every embellishment, every paper line. Yes arts and crafts can be very costly. My project I created is a two page journal spread that I literally used 1 spray, 1 paint, gesso and rusted embellishments and papers that were handmade. Let’s get started. A great way to use what you have is go on the web and look for great pictures that include colors that you may have on hand so you are encouraged to use what is in your stash.  I fell in love with this photo of the old paint brushes which involved very limited palette of colors.   I first decided to rust up some papers and metal pieces to use in my art. In a bowl, combine Hydrogen Peroxide, Distilled Vinegar and Salt. Place items inside and allow to sit to rust. The papers took about 10 minutes and the metal pieces took about 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the material they were made of.  You can check out my video on my Facebook page to see how I accomplished this. To add a bit of texture to the foundation I used Art Anthology Velvet in Tuxedo ran it through a stencil. The Snapguide tutorial below explains this in detail. Don’t allow limited access to art supplies to discourage your ability to play. “The world is but a canvas to your imagination” Henry David Thoreau

Moodboard Inspiration with Toni

Hi everyone, have you seen our moodboard this month…. Wow, such vibrant inspiration !

I knew right away this was going to be a “Happy project” …. these colors are bursting with inspiration.

I decided to use our new Shine paints. Beautiful high gloss that hold perfect dimension. I first created gelli prints with the following colors: Canary, Kelly and Ruby. So sorry I forgot to photograph the prints after made. The dragonfly was then cut out from the print that had alot of red and the tag itself I used the print that was mostly greens and yellows. I cut out 3 dragonflies so that I could layer them to have multiple wings. These colors compliment each other so well and the Shine paints are so vivid and beautiful to work with. Ideology was added to the tag and white gesso was painted over to fill in the letters. Wishing you a month filled with creativity, create with us here at Art Anthology and be inspired by our mood board this month. Post your creations are our Facebook page for others to enjoy and to network your art work with other creatives.

Altered Chinese fan with the patina set

Hello there !

I’m so glad to be back on the Art anthology blog ! It was a long summer without crafting during my vacation and it’s so good to create again ! What do I have for you today ? Another mixed media project ! This time I altered a Chinese wood fan using the Patina set, stencils, Mud Paste… Take a look !

After a coat of Gesso, I painted entirely the fan with Rose Velvet medium. Next, I used the Floral tiles stencil with Teal Matte from the Patina set. Once dry, I applied Mud paste over the Blossom stencil on each side of the fan.

To colorize and give dimension to the cherry blossom branch, I use the Seafom Stone Texture and the Copper Metallic from the same Patina set. To make it pop from the background, I just use a brown pen to outline the design. I also use the Copper on the edge of the fan.

After that, I just glued the embellishments covered in white gesso on the fan, and painted them with Rose Velvet or Teal matte (Patina set) before adding touches of Copper Metallic.

If you like to know more about the process of this project, you could watch the video tutorial here or on the AA channel there (where you could find other beautiful projects…).

Thank you for stopping by today ! I hope to see you very soon for another project…
