Polarized effect layout

Hello crafters !

I want to show you something I create on the Art Anthology cruise during a crop session. It’s a layout, where I used a picture of my daughter with polarized sunglasses, and I tried to recreate the polarized effect with AA mediums…

I am pretty satisfied with the result ! Strangely, using the same technique, I got two different tones with metal and chipboard/paper…

On the layout and the white gesso covered embellishments, I applied first a coat of Sandcastle Colorations spray, then few coats of Kona Velvet medium for the base.

Then I applied Mermaid Sorbet in the center, followed by a layer of Vegas Gold Sorbet. See the difference between the metal (flower, doilies and leaves) and the chipboard (title) or paper flowers ?

I made a quick video to show you how to create this polarized effect :

Thank you for stopping by today. Have fun with this new technique and see you soon…

Friendship card with the New Shines

Hi there !

Did you try the new Shine mediums already ? The colors are so bright I had to use them to create a peppy Friendship card !

I created my background with the Sand Stone Effect medium and the new Twinkle Lights stencil on a white paper sprayed with Sandcastle Colorations spray.

Then I stamped the flowers and sentiment with black ink, and colored the flowers with the new Shine medium in Ruby Red, Canary Yellow, Sunrise Orange and Kelly Green.

Some fussy cut, few more Ruby red strokes, and my card was done !

Here is my video tutorial to guide you step-by-step through my creative process :

Thank you for your time reviewing this project. I have a wonderful day and see you soon !

Ink resist technique layout

Hello !

I’m back from the Art Anthology cruise (you have to signed up for the next one by the way !) with a new layout and a cool ink resist technique :

Did you know that you can create a resist effect with any of our AA mediums ? I choose the Glass Sorbet because it dries transparent, but depending on what you want, you can choose any other color ! I applied the Glass over the Retro stencil and dried it before adding colors…

I choose two tones of green to spray over the medium : Granny Smith and Clover Colorations sprays. Same on some of the die cuts used as embellishments.

You can also spot Glorious Colorations spray, as well as Gold Dust Minx and Gilded Gold Fairy Dust spray on this layout.

I made a video tutorial for you to see in action how to create this ink resist effect with the Glass Sorbet. You can watch it here or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

If you want to see another project where I used the resist technique (but with gel medium instead of Glass Sorbet), take a look at my Spring panel (there is a video too)…

Thank you for stopping by today ! I wish you a great Memorial Day and wonderful week to come ! See you in a few …

Altered pencil case by Valerie

Hello !

Valerie today to show you a new mixed media project ! This time I decided to alter a canvas, but in a shape of a pencil case !

I started on a plain canvas pencil case by spraying Indigo Colorations over the Diamond Grunge stencil in 6×9. I use the Meridian stencil to draw the design on the bottom left corner, applied Fiesta Velvet on the inside of the design and then Tango Velvet for the rest.

I drawn some patterns with a white paint pen on the pink and a black paint pen over the diamonds, added dots with the Dottie stencil and Limeaid velvet before adding a sentiment.

This sentiment was made with two stencils : Expressions for “be” and Inspired Grunge for the “inspired”.

Isn’t it the result a fun pencil case ? Would you use it ? If you want to make one for yourself or to offer, watch my video tutorial to guide you to the process :

Thank you for reading this post, see you at the end of the month for another project ! You still can join some of us on the Art Anthology cruise at the end of next week ! Western Carribeans sound like fun for scrappy time, don’t you think ? It could be a Mother’s day gift (and your husband can come too…).

See ya !

Folk style Art Journal pages

Hello !

Valerie here with an another colorful art journal spread filled with Art Anthology mediums !

I started with a light background of Avocado Colorations spray, followed by stamp and Clover Colrations spray

This folk beauty is stamped on tissue paper and colored with markers, as well as the flowers on this journal ! I used the Glass Sorbet to adhere and protect it from smearing.

Before adhering the tissue paper, I used the Scales stencils in size 8×12 and 6×9 with Limeaid Velvet medium. I outlined the designs with a black pen to make it pop…

I f you would like to know more about my creative process, just watch the video tutorial here or on the AA YouTube channel :

Altered tissue box

Hello !

Valerie there today with another altered project ! I moved recently and found a sad wood tissue box in one of my cabinet ready to be upgraded ! Look at the result first :

The box was covered in lace, with lot of embellishments like flowers, buttons, pearls, stones, and chipboards on the top, then covered with white gesso before adding some colors…

I used two type of mediums in this project : Colorations sprays and Sorbet mediums. The Colorations sprays are Siesta Key and Peacock Feathers.

I used the Sorbet dimensional mediums in Cayman, Mermaid and Vegas Gold as touch ups with a small brush.

Love this color gradient ! It’s soft and vibrant at the same time !

If you would like to know more about my creative process in this project, you can watch the video tutorial here (but it’s also on the Art Anthology YouTube channel with a lot of others projects !) :

Thank you for stopping by ! Hope to see you very soon with another tutorial…

Have a great day !

Butterfly effect : an altered mask

Hello !

Who says because Mardi Gras is behind us, we cannot play with masks anymore ? Certainly not me, as I love creating new ones ! So here is my project for today :

I used 3 different material for the gears : paper, grungeboard and metal. After adhering these gears to the mask, I used the Mud Texture paste and a stamp to create more texture around the gears, before applying white gesso all over it.

Once dried, I used the Rust Texture set to highlight the gears and give them more dimensions. Then I added the Waimea Bay Colorations spray because 1. I really like this color, 2. I cannot let this mask white… Bonus : this color really enhance the rusty look.

The video tutorial is available on the Art Anthology YouTube channel, or you can just watch it here :

Thank you for your time and for stopping by on the blog. See you soon for another project…

Industrial cards with the Oxidized Silver Texture set

Hello there !

Valerie today, with a project a little bit different than the ones I’m use to… But you need to get out of your comfort zone something, right… So here I am, with a project with no bright color !

What I used for these two cards were the Oxidized silver Texture set , the Ringlets stencil, Mud texture paste and few drops of Sterling Fairy Dust (ok, white paper too).

So I started by applying Mud paste over the stencil. Once dried, I applied the ash stone texture all over it.

Then Grey matte finish and Silver Metallic on the stencil pattern. See how it looks like aged silver ?

The quote were stamped on white circle covered with the Silver Metallic medium. Used alone, it has a beautiful shiny metal finish.

Few drops of Sterling Fairy dust to complete the oxide look and I was done for my background.

If you want to know more about the process of these cards, a complete video tutorial is available for you to watch here or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by the blog today, I hope to see you soon for another project (probably with more colors this time !).

Black and bright ATCs

Hello !

Valerie again with a new project for you : ATCs ! ATCs are Artist Trading Cards, same format than games cards, 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. You can give or exchange them, like little pieces of art.

How did I create those ? White cardstock and Art Anthology products of course ! OK, I also use stamp and die…

I used Colorations sprays in Glorious, Timeless and Juicy for the background. Then I applied Coral Sorbet with the Lotus stencil

After making another layer with pink ink and the Fragments stencil, the birds were drawn using the Take flight stencil and a black pen. Then I was done with the background…

Next, I cut the globe in white cardstock with a die, and applied Raider Colorations spray over it. I painted white cardstock with Sunshine Sorbet and Glorious Colorations spray before stamped it with sentiment. Once cut, I just glued the sentiment on my ATC, and I was done !

I made a quick video tutorial for you that you can watch here or on the Art Anthology YouTube channel :

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope to see you very soon for another project !

Rusty leaves layout by Valerie

Hello there !

I have a Fall layout to show you today. I know, we are in February, but between Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and soon to be Valentine’s day, I didn’t have the chance to scrap this Fall picture I like. So here it is, and thanks to that, I did use my rust texture set !

Beside the rust set, I also use the Diamond Grunge stencil with Leaf Sorbet on both sides of the paper. Bonus : the pattern matches the leaves !

To create this rusty effect, you will apply first the rust truffle, then touches of Terracotta, and a hint of Rust Amber for the finish.

On these two pictures, one leaf is painted, the other is a altered metal leaf…

Look how the Leaf Sorbet really pop and shine on this layout !

If you want to see how I make the leaves, you can watch the complete tutorial here or on the AA YouTube channel :

Stay tune for more projects from the DT, and see you soon…
